Hmm... This is a difficult category, as none of these are amazingly wonderful. The entire list on my site here started with books that were sufficient to amuse for an evening of reading, but weren't the really big authors (like Hillerman). I guess of these listed here, I would pursue Margaret Coel and William Kent Krueger before the others. Since I put first put this page together, I've learned quite a bit about cultural appropriation issues and it should be noted this subgenre is guilty of that.

ONES WE'RE AVOIDING
While we are pretty open-minded, occasionally we take a stab at a series that fails to live up to the high hopes inspired by the back blurb (supplemented by perhaps a quick riffle in the bookstore). These two have committed the ultimate sin in that we couldn't believe them.
